Just got a text from my cousin, aka, "Mr anti vaccine/masks don't work/the lockdown has done more damage than COVID did"..............he was scheduled to get his first shot today................he cancelled....................."I decided **** it, I'm not getting vaccine, I cancelled my appointment and withdrew from further consideration through the state to get vaccinated."

His choice and all..........................but as the saying goes, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

His wife is PISSED...................he told me he'll be sleeping in the guest bedroom for awhile.

My reply "My advice is cut to the chase and move all your **** into the guest bedroom now."

Nitwit.

George, it is said that those who think without reason can not be convinced otherwise with reason.

Thanks; I'm using that line, its perfect.

I'm done now trying to reason with him.

Again; he's free to do what he wants.

God's speed.

Shock horror ...

here in Western Australia, there has been ONE case of a person who has been out in the city when he was COVID positive before flying to Melbourne and ONE other has been infected !!

That means that the whole of the city, about 2 million people are now into lockdown for 3 days at least!!

We all also have to wear masks outside.

Bad news is that our ANZAC Day parades and Dawn Services on Sunday are now cancelled, and there can be no spectators at the Football on Saturday ( which is the closest we have to a religion !!!) Plans will now go ahead for driveway Dawn Services like we did last year with our neighbours.

"Hit it hard and fast" is the state policy, ... !

Oh well, back out to shed and keep painting my toy soldiers :)

Good to see President Biden showing Covid leadership by wearing his mask during online meeting with nearly 40 other world leaders.

Despite having two vaccinations still have to be careful. On behalf of Australia I can report that our Prime Minister has also had his two vaccinations so no danger from him. But do have to be careful of that Russian dude as he looks very dodgy.

........I hear the 'Sputnik Vodka' vaccine performs wonders when it comes to curing the common cold particularly when injected in large doses and repeated booster shots. {eek3}:wink2:^&grin

Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas has passed a new policy on employees getting a Covid vaccine shot...

they say 89% of their staff already has been vaccinated...
the other 11% has until June 6th to get their vaccine shot or they will be dismissed...

they have had a standard policy on vaccinations for the regular influenza (flu) shot for years...
with 100% of their staff being administered the vaccine shot...

but they say they can't take the chance of allowing a non vaccinated employee/staff member of infecting patients/visitors/others...
the non vaccinated employees are too much of a liability...

I think we will see more of this from other hospitals...

CDC gave an update on mask guidelines in the USA today...

CDC says fully vaccinated Americans can go without masks outdoors, except in crowded settings...

Fauci?.........................Fauci?.............................Fauci?....................................Must be time for a new pair of flip-flops. I don't think this entire time I have ever worn a mask outdoors to walk, play tennis, entertain on my deck, on the beach. I am sorry, but I gave up on the CDC and Fauci a long ago in this mess. Common sense and personal hygiene have seemingly carried the day much better than the blind leading the blind. Common sense tells you to wash your hands, mind your personal space, cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, get a vaccine, etc etc etc. I really have no more patience left for the idiocy that has abounded disguised as guidance through this mess.

Fear not; today Pfizer announced they think a pill to knock COVID out of your system if you get it will be available by the end of the year.

But today Biden said he still wants everyone wearing masks, vaccinated or not.

So don't worry Tom; between the vaccine and the pill, we'll be free from mask wearing mandates by December..................................2024.

I have so many comments for this one but they are not eligible for discussion on this board!!!!!!!! Another note - Maryland - mask mandate lifted completely for all outdoor activities. Outdoor dining is also unrestricted at this time. Life is looking up. Last week while traveling for work in Louisiana - most areas I went to were very lax on masks except New Orleans. Now, riddle me this - New Orleans has and still has (if anyone is still counting) the highest infection rate. I can't wait for the post mortem research reports that will be done on this mess, it will make for interesting reading I am willing to bet.

A note on the above - I am not against masks and wear mine where I go indoors, etc (all places required). I do not wear a mask in my car, while walking, playing tennis, mowing the lawn, eating, etc etc. What I am making light of is the guidance, how anyone with a straight face can say the guidance has been spot on is beyond me.

So much bad news over the last year. I came across this story in the local press for a change of pace:

A good Samaritan on Sunday jumped into a bay to save an infant in an Ocean City, Maryland, who fell into the water below after being ejected in a crash.

Officials said emergency crews were called at 2:47 p.m. to the Maryland Route 90 bridge for a crash involving a vehicle that was half way over the guardrail.

Officials said an infant was ejected from the vehicle that was teetering over the guardrail, landing in the Assawoman Bay below. Officials said a good Samaritan jumped over the guardrail and into the bay, rescuing the infant.

Just read a lengthy article in the Boston Globe about COVID; here in MA, they are predicting our four major mass vaccination sites will be closed down in less than two months due to the rapid slow down of vaccinations, once those facilities close, vaccinations will be done at smaller regional facilities.

The myth of herd immunity is just that, a myth. In order to get to it, 80/90% of the population would need to get the vaccine, experts are predicting we'll peak out at 70% here in the US.

That's not enough.

So, COVID is here to stay, it will be generations before it's completely gone (if ever), it will be like the flu; different strains each year, a constant process to stay ahead of it.

Great.

George, I think you would be better served using the Boston Globe to line the bottom of your cat's litter box rather than a source of any factual information. :wink2:^&grin

That sounds like solid advice...................;)...............

Gents,

Meanwhile here is San Antone...the masks are now a mish mash of wearing and not wearing. All of our employees are vaccinated and we don't wear masks in the store. About 90% of our customers still wear masks, but we get the occasional non mask wearers coming in. Our plexiglass is still up, but we may take it down. I still wear a mask everywhere else, Home Depot, out to eat, etc.

When I pick up the grand daughter from school ALL the kids wear masks. But, I think the masks are waning in disciplined wearing of them for everything and everybody. I don't know what to make of it, but it is second nature to put the mask on when entering a place of business. I think also the fear is diminishing, yet we know people are still getting sick and passing.

Being vaccinated give a false sense of security...protection? I don't know, but as always its going to be a long hot summer with those masks on. I'll wear them until the all clear is given, but I fear that will never happen. A long and winding road indeed.

John from Texas

Meanwhile in California, about 99% of the population still wears masks the second they step outside or exit their cars, even post vaccinations etc.

I even saw someone jogging today wearing a double mask set-up.

There has to be some sort of in-between the 2 extremes of not ever wearing a mask and wearing a hazmat suit to take out your garbage.
